Follow me as I lead you on a quest to seek out the ancient texts of our culture that has been lost for thousands of years.
In Ancient times, Lethan Twi'leks walked and danced in the open. They were deeply devoted followers in the temple. They gave up everything except their dancing to be with the goddess.
Dancing was an ancient practice. Female Twi'leks (of all clans) were taught from the age, five years old. At eight years old, they would take an exam. If they passed they went to a higher level. This would carry on like this until they became 18 years of age. They would be at highest level at this age. Continue dancing before taking an exam. The ones who passed would be asked to perform a dance in one of the religious ceremonies. A day after the dance, they'd be selected by one of the high priestesses too become a Temple dancer. Those who weren't picked followed the ancient tradition of the Vassij'ra.
Male Twi'leks were looked down upon as not worthy for training. The Art of Dancing was apart of the temple rituals. Only followers could enter the temple. It was strictly female devotion and the goddess was female too. Of course there was a way getting around that law, by marrying a Priestess. But even that was difficult as you had too prove your devotion in front everybody on the planet! Asking to marry a Priestess was a chaotic thing to mess with aka head clan & Priest confrontations etc, unless your feelings were pure and your passion was serious.
Over the years the ancient traditions began to change. So much so that the Lethan Twi'leks had to go into hiding whether they be a kiva or not. The Priestess Caste ceased to exist because the Priestesses were mostly Lethan! The rest of the followers quickly helped to recruit new Priestesses, before the slave traders caught them. A fallen caste was dangerous because that meant that the remaining Twi'leks would be placed into another caste, most often than not, the lower caste which would no doubt lead straight to slavery.
Lethan and Tolian Twi'leks are decendents of the deserts fire, the heat storms that ride with the wind and burn in the sand. Lethan Twi'leks once lived in the canyons of Ryloth's mountains, on the peak of the cliffs where the sun glared most.
Lethan Twi'leks are an ancient race. Bred from the fire of the sun and the sand of the desert. Their known to be decendents of the oldest clan, a race chosen by the goddess herself. To live in solitude, away from the infuelances of the city folk in order to reserve their values and keep the ancient magics alive for the goddess.
They don't and won't make contact with any of the other races of their own species. However there are many people on the otherside who would love too meet them...because whoever caught a Lethan Twi'lek would be the richest alien in the universe!
I've created an ancient dance for the Lethan and Tolian race. Whether it be for their family while in hiding or in the ancient times out in open or on the dancefloor.
Step 1: Pose on the ground
Step 2: Raise head, do a handspring then a somersault backwards
Step 3: Twirl around slowly then slowly faster and faster
Step 4: Leap in the air and slowly slide body down to the ground
Step 5: Sit on knees, flip lekku up and weave a lekku dance.
Step 6: Through lekku dance, spin on the ground and dance on the ground until your standing up.
Step 7: Dance in time to the music that your lekku is moving too. Close your eyes and let go of your worries, Picture yourself in a desert with the Goddess standing beside you. She's asked you to dance for her and her alone.
Step 8: Bellydance then bring your arms up, stirring the desert wind around you, creating a dust storm.
Step 9: Twirl around dangerously fast across the floor in a straight line as if lighting the desert on fire.
Step 10: Do a double somersault then pose.
Rutian Twi'leks are (by myth) bred from The Twilight River that runs through several cities on the darker side of the planet. These Twi'leks are decendents of the ripples of water. The Twilight River is always changing its shade, from dark to light. It does this when it travels through tunnels so don't expect to get twins all of the time. If the water darkens when it reaches a village, a pregnant mother will get a single child. If the water is a lighter shade, the mother will be blessed with twins.
Rutian Twi'leks worship water and have become very superstitious over the generations. A darker child is cast out, that child is a curse because their goddess said that only twins can bring them freedom. This is where slavery comes into play. In a way darker Twi'leks are lucky, with this Sub-Rutian race seen as a diease; they are able to runaway and live independent lives. The Rutian Twi'leks hate warriors!
This dance can only be mastered by Rutian Twi'leks.
Step 1: Meditate, be in contact with the ancient waters
Step 2: Chime your ankle bracelets in time to the music
Step 3: Use movement of hands to indicate an invisible necklace and earrings that you are wearing
Step 4: Tap ankle bracelets gracefully and dance your lekku across your body
Step 5: Let your body dance like The Twilight River
Step 6: As the river is swept into a current, the dance gets faster then as the river hits the rocks, dance as if your body has been thrown against them. Do that several times then as the water calms down-chime those ankle bracelets
Step 7: repeat step 5-6
Step 8: repeat step 6 again and pose on the ground in defeat of the rapids.
Tyrian Twi'leks are decendents of lightining that dances in the darkness of deserts where the darkest storms form. They are said to be bred from the stars. Tyrian Twi'leks are born dancers and singers. They pray through the thought of song and the art of dance. So naturally they are brilliant dancers though the chances of performing off planet is very small as they are protected by the Priestess Clan. You think that they are naive and that it is quite true. Tyrian Twi'leks never rise from the heart of the Twilight Lands.
This dance can only be mastered by Tyrian Twi'leks.
Step 1: Perform beautiful ballet
Step 2: Use lekku to weave and create ancient stories in the air
Step 3: chime ankle bracelets
Step 4: Use hands for balance and clapping only. Let Lekku and the rest of the body do all the work
Step 5: dance lekku when signing, waving and whipping through the air
Step 6: Skip around in a circle (with six other dancers) then twirl, bellydance and do fancy somersaults
Step 7: dance with elegance and sensuality
Step 8: Use anger as the main emotion for this dance
Step 9: Sing in native language, the most ancient native language, that many have heard but only few have learnt
Step 10: Run, leap, do a somersault and land by posing on the ground doing the splits

Comments
I've heard that every now and then there are rainbow skinned twi'leks. It's just a simple and harmless mutation of the skin like an albino.
The Lethans (Red twi'leks) are actually the rarest skintone "mutation of the skin like an albino." They are hated by their own people and wanted throughout the galaxy as slaves. Rutian (blue Twi'leks) are the second rarest and they are defintely "harmless."
